The Story of a Haircut

Once upon a time,

there was a mommy with long hair.

Not "lasso the dog" long, but still long.

This momma knew there were little girls who were fighting cancer.
Little girls who have lost their hair.
And she couldn't imagine her babies being forced to fight that battle.
So she did the one thing she knew she could do to help.

She cut 10 inches off her hair.

And mailed it to the amazing people at Locks of Love.

So that, somewhere, a little girl fighting cancer can concentrate on fighting the cancer rather than being self-conscious.

And, since this mommy had NEVER EVER EVER dyed her hair, her very brave and wonderful friend volunteered for the task.  Yes, this is the same friend that the mommy wrote about here.  She really is that good of a friend.

The two friends even made a special trip to Wal-Mart to pick out the color.
The mommy never knew just how many options of hair color there are.
It was slightly overwhelming.

They ended up choosing one that was not quite Marilyn Monroe, but still lighter than the original.

And, wouldn't you know it?  Some of the mommy's natural red highlights just came popping out!

The mommy was very happy with the new strawberry color.  All of her friends agreed that the new cut and color was just as spunky as her personality.

But, most important to the mommy was the knowledge that somewhere there will be a little girl with hope and a full head of blond hair.

Letter of Intent: Girlfriend Advice

Foursons

To my bloggy girlfriends (and guy friends with hair opinions):

I am in serious need of some advice here.  I am donating my hair to Locks of Love next week.  I am pretty sure I will have the minimum 10 inches, but it will make my hair fairly short.  I will have NEVER had my hair this short.  I need some votes.  My sweet hairdresser gave me a couple of books to thumb through, but I just can't make up my mind.  Please take a look & let me know what you think!  And just so I don't get in trouble, all photos came from the Inspire Hair Fashion hardback collections.

Option 1:
I like this because it is fun & funky, but I worry about how much time I would have to spend making it look fun and funky every day.

Option 2:

 This one is really soft & sweet, but I have done this hairstyle before, only a bit longer.  And bangs tend to annoy me.

Option 3:

I love the angular look on this one.  I can see how I could style it both straight & curly (I have very curly hair when it's short).  But, again, the bangs.

Options 4 & 5:

I could easily see wash-and-go with both of these.  #4 (top) is the more angular & edgy, while #5 (bottom) seems more gentle and flowing.  However, I am concerned about the possibility of looking like a mushroom cap on those rare days when CO decides to have humidity.

Option 6:

This is, by far, my favorite so far.  Maybe it's because there are 9 different photos of the same hairstyle, shown both straight and curly.  I can see all my options!  I love the layers in the back with the long bangs that I can tuck behind my ears.  However, I am concerned by how much time it will take me in the morning to not look like I stuck my finger in the light socket.

I am not kidding here, friends.  I use hairspray/gel maybe half a dozen times a year.  I have NEVER colored my hair, although I am slighly considering it. I need help.  Tell me what you think.

Humbly,
The Girlyness-Challenged One

Letters of Intent

Dearest Kat,

While your new hair cut does look all grown up,

You are still not old enough for celebrity gossip.

Quit trying to grow up so fast.

And, no, I will not explain Teen Mom to you.  Because you just don't need to know.

Love,
Where is my no-grow-up fairy?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Princess Pukey Pants,
While I greatly appreciated the enormous amounts of snuggling that happened this week,
I could also greatly do without the accompanying high fever, puking, and diarrhea.
And when you lay on the couch like this:
... Mommy starts to worry.  Especially when you don't even fuss about watching Star Trek instead of princess movies.
Love,
Loves snuggles but not cleaning vomit off the couch
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Influenza Type A,

Please be informed this is your formal notice of eviction.  You are no longer welcome in this home.  Because when you turn my normally spunky kids into this:

and this

without even offering to pay for their prescriptions, I get very tired of your free-loading ways.  I am all for generosity and extending grace, but you have tried my patience.  You have taken the Daddy-Daughter Dance away from two of my princesses.  You even think about touching the biggest princess and I will kick your germy rooty poo tooty.

Signed,
Tired of cleaning up your messes

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Self,
The next time you get on a blogging kick and schedule a bazillion posts in advance, be warned.
It may be God preparing you for the illness of your children that will render you completely and absolutely technologically-impaired for 72 hours.
Signed,
Sometimes procrastination can be a good thing?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Bloggers who are way smarter than me?

Please help me.  I have been trying to figure this out for a week.  How do you have a page on your blog (like mine has Meet the Chaos, etc), but for posts?  For example, I would love to have a Project 365, or a 30 Day Picture Challenge page, where someone could click and see all the posts with that label.

I am done beating my head against a wall.  I humbly ask for your help.

Sincerely,
Sick of the forehead bruises

Letters of Intent: The Do

To My Darling Middle Daughter:

Did you really think I would not notice this?

Or this?

Yes, I took a picture of my trash can.  I could not believe the sheer amount of hair.

And if I missed those, did you really think I wouldn't see your interesting new hairstyle?

read: self-inflicted pre-schooler mullet

Mommy wasn't born yesterday.  The scissors did not magically jump out of the drawer and mercilessly attack your head.

And, as adorable as your new haircut is

And as much as it totally matches your spit-fire personality,

You are not a hairdresser.

Not even close.

Love,
Needs a new scissor hiding place

Haircuts All Around!

Haircut Day is always an important day in this family.  The girls love visiting Miss Ronda.  Katrina and Violet got trims since I like their hair at the moment.  Madi and I have, on the other hand, been having hair issues lately.  So, we went with something new.

No, this was not the final cut.  But she thought the clips were so funny she asked me to take a picture of them.

Here is the final cut.  Cute, right?  And eerily similar to big sisters, I know.  But, she loves it, and it is much easier to brush.  Always a plus in my world.

As I mentioned earlier, Jerome randomly decided to shave his head on Saturday.  Little did I know the men in my life were creating a hairless wonder competition!

The best part was when, as we were getting ready, and he saw the camera, he asked me if photos would be appearing on the blog.  Well, of course darling!!!

And now, for your viewing pleasure, we present:

The Progression of a Bald Man

Pre-Cut

As close as the clippers will get it

minus the beard

And freshly bic-ed!

And now we (the girls and I) get the extreme pleasure of watching him get his head stuck in his shirts!

I like the bald look!  And Jerome agrees that is is much smarter to shave his head in July rather than November, like last time.

Violet the Pirate Returns

Shh...dont tell Mommy.  I am hijacking her computer while she is at work and the nanny is distracted by Madi. I can always count on big sis for a good distraction.  The last time I did this, I was on crib detail for a month!

But, really?  Who cares about leeks?  I didnt even eat them.  Ha, Mommy didnt tell you that, did she?  Nope, I refused to eat dinner that night.  No way was she going to fool me.  I knew they were onions.  Not gonna eat them.  Of course, my master plan backfired when she didnt let me have a cookie for dessert.  Which reminds me, I need to renegotiate my dinner/dessert contract with her...

And dont you just love what she has been doing with Picasa lately?  Stunning, I tell you.  Just stunning.

Anyways,  I have been quite busy lately.  I am cutting all of my 2 year molars at the same time.  You know I like to keep everyone busy.  I have also discovered a new form of Mommy torture.  I have perfected sitting on the potty without actually doing anything.  I ask to to sit on it at least a half dozen times every night, then do my business about a minute after she gets the diaper back on.  She really makes some great facial expressions!

And, the most important news - I got my hair cut!  I normally just get a trim, but this time I wanted to do something different.  Mommy said I had been rocking the baby mullet.  Now, I am not sure what a mullet is, but it sure didnt sound good.

I must say that I do enjoy all the pampering I get from Mrs. Ronda.  She takes good care of me.

We cut at least 2 inches off the bottom.  Doesnt it look better now?

And the finished product is pretty fabulous too, if I do say so myself.

Since Mommy seems to really be enjoying my poop stories lately, I figured I would dish out on my ever so loving sisters.  Madi decided to use poop as camoflage war paint the other night.  Very fun for me.  I love standing next to her while she is taking a cold bath reminding her that we do not eat poop.  Actually, that phrase works in a lot of situations in this house...

Oops, busted by the nanny!  Gotta go!

Violet's First Big Girl Haircut

My little princess is growing up far too fast for my taste. I'm not ready for her to be 2 on Monday. Her daddy keeps asking when we are going to put her in a big girl bed. I keep saying, "I don't think she's ready yet." Really, it's me who's not ready. I wish I could freeze her.

Violet has gone to Miss Ronda's since she was an itty bitty, but just recently had her first haircut in the big girl chair. And loved it! I think we have the makings of a pampered princess here people!

Either that, or she just really wants to be like the big girls.

Hair Cuts!

We (the girls) desperately needed hair cuts. It had been far, far too long. I can kind of trim bangs. Ok, I can't really trim bangs. I just pretend, and hope for the best. The girls are only 5, 3, and 1, and they've already had some pretty special Mommy cuts. They need Miss Ronda.

Miss Ronda has cut my hair since I was 5, and she is the only person who has cut the girls hair. Yes, I know we're spoiled. I've already told her that she's never allowed to retire. Ever.
So, we all needed cuts. Katrina went first. She is totally girly, and really starting to get into the primping thing. So she loves that Miss Ronda has long nails, and rubs her head. I think Katrina even started to fall asleep at one point. But, point a camera her direction, and she's all grins.

Her hair turned out really cute. We had to compromise between her idea (at her ears) and mine (below her shoulders). It's a good thing Ronda knows how to negotiate.

It ended up being a little longer in the back than we were both expecting, but Ronda thinned her hair quite a bit, so I think it will be ok.

Next was Madison's turn. Madison LOVES sitting in Miss Ronda's chair. She absolutely does whatever Ronda asks, is totally patient, and doesn't even whine. I know, I know - who is this child and what has she done with Madison. I've personally threatened to take Ronda home with us.

Madi thinks Ronda is just about the funniest thing in the world. She was talking up a storm, telling her all about her little life. Of course then I had to translate, but that's ok. It was fun to watch.

Do you see how still and obediently she is sitting? Does she do this when Mom is cutting her bangs at home? Noooo, of course not. At home it's a roping competition at the rodeo. At Ronda's - perfect obedience.

And I got my hair cut too. You can see my new hair cut (my dad is calling me Shorty now) in my profile pic. And what, you may ask, were Jerome and Violet doing? Well, Jerome was catching up on his celebrity gossip...

Actually, I have to give my hubby huge props. He sat through the entire almost 3 hours and patiently attended to the girls with me. There is no way I would have been able to do it without him there.

Violet tried to steal the show...

... sat on the patio with Madi...

...climbed on...

... sat on ...

... and climbed off the bench many times ...

... and tried to steal Miss Ronda's candy.
