I've pulled a muscle. In my thigh. My right thigh. The same leg that is currently covered in a cast. Yup, I'm just that good.
So, I've spent the better part of today with an ice pack on my thigh and a bag of frozen corn on my foot. As a dear friend texted me, "Of course. That means you need to stay down! God will get you down one way or another. "
You'd think my friends thought I was stubborn or something...
I've read 5 books in the past week. And downloaded another 20 or so to my kindle to read. All free, I might add. Thanks to Beth for turning me onto www.inspiredreads.com. Love getting that daily email!
Below is a pic of my incision. If you're squeamish, might I suggest the little red x in the corner. The nurse claims that, although it may look nasty now, my surgeon's incisions always heal the best. I'm just gonna have to trust her on that one...
And my cast color is....

The Trial and Tribulations of a One-Legged Scooter Driver
Jerome is in town with the boys, playing their first softball game of the year. And, because the game was at 8:25 at night, and because Nina and I must rise with the chickens tomorrow for our grand adventure (more on that in a bit), and because tiny princess Violet got shots today, and because it is all windy and such outside, we stayed home. Which allows me to take a bath in peace with a glass of wine and my phone and a book. I like late games.
My scooter, which had saved my sanity, by the way, was far too boring. So we spiced it up. I think it looks much more fabulous now.
But do you see that back tire? Well, there is a little knob on that tire. A metal knob. A metal knob that I succeed in whacking with my ankle at least once a day. Thus, the loverly photo of my sad, abused ankle.
What's tomorrow, you ask? Well, it is our grand adventure! Nina gets to visit super Dr. S at Shriner's in Salt Lake for her 6 month(ish) post-op checkup. She is doing fabulous, in my opinion, but it's nice to have medical opinions to back you up. And, because I cannot drive 7 hours with my left foot, nor can Jerome take 2 days off in the middle of the work week to take us, we get a special treat. Shriner Grandpa and Shriner Grandpa's Buddy are going to fly us to SLC in SGB's plane! We will be helping them deliver 80 disposable cameras to the patients at the hospital, and Grandpa gets to see the hospital from the grandpa perspective. After our appointment we will be flown back home the same day. Such service! I guess it pays to know people sometimes.
So now I'm going to go soak my poor feet and prepare myself to wake with the chickens.

Random updates from a random mind
In bullet style, for your convenience and my amusement. Because it is a beautiful, sunshiny day and I can't play in my backyard. *pout*
* It is extremely hard to resist the siren call of the lawnmower. I love my lawnmower in a slightly unhealthy manner. But I somehow think that grass clippings stuck to my cast might give me away to my surgeon.
* We got to spend way more time in the ER and doctor's office than I would have liked this week. Nina woke up Thursday with extreme pain in her lower right abdomen. All the ER docs were certain it was appendicitis, until it wasn't. Turns out it was a nasty stomach virus that decided to attack the cluster of lymph nodes next to her lower intestine. Needless to say, the littles are going stir crazy while big sis groans on the couch.
* We are almost done with school for the year. This first year had been challenging, but amazing. I am super excited to order next year's curriculum, but ready for a little break.
* My surgery date is May 30. Happy birthday to me - I get morphine!!! It was either that or our anniversary. I opted for my birthday and told my surgeon I would bring him cupcakes.
* I get to rock a hard cast for 6 weeks post-op. Mainly because Jerome and my surgeon agreed that, at some point, I will go stir crazy and try to put weight on my foot if he lets me be in the black boot. I hate it when I know they're right.
* The main conversation in our house right now is what color my cast should be. The consensus is pink camo. I think that works. I promise pics once I'm coherent enough to work my phone.
* Madi has had 2 tball games, and LOVES it. I can easily see her rocking the eye black and striking out the boys when she's older.
* A sweet friend from church has volunteered to clean my house once a week while I'm laid up. So humbling, and yet so awesome!!!
* We are now headed to a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for one of our favorite teenagers. Bonus - no cooking or cleaning for me!

The Contents Of My Purse
This is my purse.
I had to clean it out this morning.
I found:
1 wallet, stuffed with coins
3 Christmas presents, ready for delivery
1 headband that changes color in the sun
God only knows how many pieces of paper
Violet's new wallet, containing only a plastic toy
my current cross-stitch project, my sunglasses, and Nina's extra glasses case.
And a close up to prove that it is a cross-stitch project and not a random plastic bag.
4 nail files, 3 packs of gum, 2 hand sanitizers, 1 pack of kleenex, random medicine and my inhaler
The remnants of the tampon box that exploded in my car (wish I could make that one up)
Two pocket knives (doesn't everyone?)
5 pens, 1 permanent marker, 1 Rudolph nose, 1 jingle bell from the dog's collar, 1 calculator, and a hair clip
2 playing cards and a broken honey stick
and a tampon angel from a friend.
I have two thoughts:
No wonder my back hurts.
I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.
What's in your purse?

LOI: To our Town and Crazy Kids
To my town,
I know you all like the animals. And the hippy lifestyle. But, really, I don't think they should mix.
If you don't talk to your cat about catnip, who will?
Decidedly Right in a Town Full of Left
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear People Thinking of Moving Here,
Here in Colorado, we like to make sure everyone knows about our wonderful weather. We have four. They are:
Enjoying the Construction. Right. Outside. My. House.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Little Miss Adventurer,
I am so glad you love a good challenge. While it was difficult to explain why you and all your 38 inch fierceness couldn't go on the 10 story wooden rollercoaster, I appreciate the passion and drive. But, sometimes, this no fear thing just creeps me out.

Suzie Homemaker Fail
I have accomplished nothing in the last 3 1/2 hours.
My children slept that long. Please don't hate me.
I took the opportunity to read blogs. And fill my Amazon wish list with new books for my kindle (hint hint Handsome Realtor Man). And fill mycheap random crap Oriental Trading shopping cart with bribery rewards and other such nonsense for school time.
And do nothing.
This morning, total Proverbs 31 woman.
That is, after the kids and I got up. At 9. Please don't hate me. We totally wore them out with the random trip of chaos this weekend (more on that tomorrow), so we were all exhausted.
But, this morning, I unpacked from the trip, got caught up on the laundry, helped the kids sort their toys and books into Keep, Give Away, and Toss piles (Love that my children willingly and joyfully give their possessions away. Disturbed that the toys seem to be procreating of their own volition.), and found more treasures for my china cabinet. Oh yeah, I haven't mentioned the china cabinet yet, have I?
When my dad came home from Vietnam, he decided to go to college on the GI bill down in a little town called Durango. Needing a job, he began working at a little furniture shop on Main called Wilson's Furniture. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson became, over time, a second set of parents for my dad. They provided much wisdom and support over the years.
The first piece of furniture my mom and dad purchased for my grandparents was from Wilson's. It was a beautiful dark wood and glass china cabinet. I don't remember my grandmas house without that cabinet. It always held the good dishes, the fancy cups, the cake topper from their 50th wedding anniversary. Memories.
I can close my eyes and picture where it was in this house. I have never known my life at her house without it.
After my grandma passed away, my dad, aunts, and uncles have slowly been going through her house. Sorting, separating, divvying up. It has been hard, emotional work. When my dad asked me if I would like her cabinet, there was no way I could say no.
The beautiful cabinet, with so many memories, now proudly sits in my living room. My own good china, purchased by my parents when I was a baby, is proudly displayed on the top shelf. My grandmas tea cups, and that precious cake topper, is now on the second. I am eager to fill it with our familys treasures.
But now, the children have awoken from their marathon nap, Handsome Realtor Man is home for a few hours before his softball game, dinner needs fixing (gotta love leftovers), and I must redeem myself for these last few hours.
But, sometimes, its good to fail.

30 Day Picture Challenge: Days 11 through 14
Oh man! I did it again! I posted a post with nothing in it! GAAH! Thanks to Beth for pointing out my oops. So, to make it up to all of you, I have officially caught myself up on my 30 Day Picture Challenge. Phew! Now if I could only keep up with it...
Day 11: A picture of something you hate (to make up for the whoops a few weeks ago)
Yes, I despise jelly beans. Yes, I could have gone with something deep, like hate, or racism, or Satan. But I have spent the last hour 10 feet up a tree trying to get a dead branch down, I am tired, and I just don't like jelly beans. So there!
Day 12: A picture of something you love
This was my Mothers Day present. I am desperately hoping that the Wii Fit will counteract this. Because it has already gotten a LOT of use. Seriously, I don't know how I have cooked for so long without one. I have my own pizza dough rising on the top of the fridge right now. Anyone want to come over for dinner tonight?
Day 13: A picture of your favorite band or artist
I like a LOT of Christian rock. And country. And blues. And jazz. And oldies. And... But I think my all-time fav has got to be Third Day. Or Garth Brooks. GAAH!!!
Day 14: A picture of someone you could never imagine your life without
Yup. He is a keeper!

A Longer Than Intended Absence
I officially apologize to all of blogdom for my absence. Apparently, G*ogle became so despondent over my absence that it shut down Blogger for a few days. I had no idea that my lack of blogging could bring down an international powerhouse. I am both humbled and honored. And I promise to never unintenionally cause such trauma to my friends again.
Ok, seriously. My last day of full-time, paid employment was on Friday, April 29th. Since then, I have spent my days lounging on the couch, reading trashy romance novels and eating bon bons. Because isnt that what all SAHMs do?
Ha. Dont I know better.
I have, in no particular order:
In short, I have been insanely busy, but also having insane amounts of fun. The girls make me laugh daily, I get kisses and snuggles consistently, and my heart is full.
I am grateful to all of you for sticking around, but I needed time to just be a mama again. Remember what that is like. Laugh at Violet as she realizes, again, that Mommy is staying home to play with her all day, and proceeds to do the happy dance. Revel in the fact that we can go to the park in the middle of the day. Watch Madi cover herself and the entire kitchen in flour as she helps me cook. Snuggle Kat when her tummy hurts. Cook a dinner that takes longer than 15 minutes to prepare.
Seriously, I could spend all day, every day cleaning my house and NEVER be done. That is just a fact of life with children. But I have missed the contact, encouragement, and comraderie of my friends. I am trying to find a balance. Thanks for being patient during the process.

Ha. Dont I know better.
I have, in no particular order:
- deep cleaned the bathrooms
- deep cleaned the bedrooms
- deep cleaned the kitchen, living room, hallways, entryway, and laundry room
- purged our house of unneccessary stuff (a truck AND an SUV full, to be exact)
- discovered that my husband has 62 dress shirts (yes, I counted)
- discovered that my husband had the same number of coats as ALL of our children combined
- successfully convinced said husband to donate coats to the local shelter
- kept up on the laundry for more than 2 days for the first time in my married life
- taken the girls to the park
- taken the girls to Walmart
- taken the girls to the mall
- taken the girls to the park
- taken the girls to get coffee
- taken the girls to the grocery store
- taken the girls to the park
- taken the girls to playdates with friends
- taken the girls to visit Grandpa & Grandma at the office
- taken the girls to the park
- taken the girls on a walk
- played with my new mixer
- made brownies from scratch (first time ever)
- promised no less than 4 sewing projects for the girls
- answered the what are we doing today question no less than 3 times per day
- tried to coordinate a 7 and 8 year olds baseball team snack schedule
- tried to keep said 7 and 8 year olds from having a sword fight with metal bats in the dugout
- watched the 30 and 40 year olds consider having a sword fight with metal bats in the big boys dugout
- tried to plant my garden umpteen times, only to be thwarted by snow. In May.
- reveled in the marvelous wonder that is nap time.
In short, I have been insanely busy, but also having insane amounts of fun. The girls make me laugh daily, I get kisses and snuggles consistently, and my heart is full.

Another Random Bullet Point Post
Because I have a lot to say, but none of it flows together enough for a "real" post.
- I found a place (courtesy of some awesome church friends) in town that services sewing machines. I dropped mine off on Saturday, and it was ready the same day! Before, I had to drive an hour to a certain state whose drivers give me hives, leave my sewing machine at the only place that would touch it, wait a month, call them to see if they got it done yet, hear some sob story about how the repair guy's grandmother's aunt's sister-in-law's dog walker had something tragic happen and he hadn't gotten around to it yet, wait another month, then call them to find out it was ready three weeks ago but someone forgot to call me. Needless to say, I am very excited about the prospect of sewing again. And the fabric in this store is AMAZING. Ok, I need to stop with the virtual drooling now.
- I got my tires rotated. I always feel like such a stud when little old girlie me walks into the tire shop with all the burly auto men and tells them exactly what I need, and they treat me like I know what I am talking about.
- This sidewalk annoys me. Sidewalks should be a straight line. Not all curvy.
- Madi and I are positively itchy to get our garden going this year. But considering the fact that we live in CO where it has been known to snow on the 4th of July, I think I will wait until Mother's Day to do any planting. Sigh. Madi requested squash. Only my child.
- I went to S*bway to get lunch and they were out of meatballs. Really? That completely threw my day in a whack because the only sandwich I have gotten from there in the last 5 years is the meatball.
- I cleaned popcicle, kool-aid, and pee off my floors within the last 24 hours. I'm telling you, the life of a mom is nothing but glamour.
- The fish at our office were constipated this week. I had no idea fish could be constipated.
- My husband shaved his head this weekend. I think he looks hot. He is also coaching Kat's Little League team this year. They are the Red Sox. All the coaches have to be in uniform with the team this year. Which means baseball pants. I love my husband in baseball pants. It's going to be a good summer.
- Boss Man & Boss Lady are in LV for a conference this week. Which means Boss Man is forced to behave himself in classes all day while Boss Lady gets to shop and lounge by the pool. Which means we get to listen to whatever music we want at the office. Which means I get to hear Garth Brooks and Toby Keith from one office and Metallica and Cyndi Lauper from the other.
- That is all.

True Story Tuesday: Cause I'm Good Like That

True Story Tuesday, brought to you once again by the illustrious Rachel and Mr Daddy. Head on over there for more stories that are just to weird to be made up!
This is the door to the microwave at work.
This is what is is supposed to look like.
This is what the door looks like now.
This is the piece of plastic that broke off, rendering the entire appliance inoperable.
This is what I was trying to put back in the microwave.
This is the $3 clearance bracelet set from P*yless that I snagged on the aforementioned piece of plastic, tearing it from the microwave, rendering the entire appliance useless. Please disregard the chubby fingers. I really must talk to that hand model.
Did I mention that the tiny piece of broken plastic breaks the ENTIRE microwave?
You be the judge:
Cheap appliance construction or sturdiest bracelet ever?

True Story Tuesday: When My Cell Phone Exploded
Nighttime in the hospital is very odd. It's quiet, but it's not quiet. The visitors have gone home for the day, most of the patients are asleep, the staff is fewer. But, you hear the beep of the machines, the moans and groans (or cries) as patients attempt to rest despite their pain, the covered giggles of the night staff as they try to have fun at work without waking the neighborhood. It's weird.
When we went in Saturday night, I asked Super Realtor (love this nickname, by the way - it just may stick) to bring my laptop. Of course, I also asked him to bring my exercise pants, a pair of athletic socks, my tennis shoes, a tshirt, and my pajamas. I got his exercise pants, one of his dress socks, a pair of my fuzzy socks, and a sweatshirt. Whatever. At least he remembered the laptop.
I don't sleep well in hospitals. Heck, I have trouble sleeping at home! And I learned from our first stay with Violet that nighttime can be pretty boring for Mama while baby is trying to sleep. So, while Violet tried to get comfortable and catch some zzzz's between all the beeps and boops and whooshes, I hopped on FB to catch up with the world and let my brain unwind.
And that is when the trouble began.
I guess it started innocently enough. Rachel (who is NEVER on FB, by the way), posted about their adventure of the day:
Now, I'm sure you missed the most epic part of that post. Go look at the number of comments.
No, that is not a typo. We discovered how to use the comments as a 5-way IM. Genius!
Of course, after a long and stressful day, my snarky meter was WAY off the charts:
My other friend Shana jumped in the fray, but her snarky meter was just a little tired that night, at first:
Really, only Shana could say something like that and have it seem completely normal. But, we still needed to know WHY IN THE HECK THERE WERE TEETH IN HER DRIVEWAY!
And then we discussed the finer points of target practice with 22s:
Seriously, what husband, given that wind-up, would not swing straight for the fences? Mr. Daddy delivered a home run:
And, we have all learned one thing from the times Mr. Daddy hijacks their blog. Don't get that man on a roll. Cause it's gonna be dangerous!
At this point, Rachel was red beyond belief and trying to do ANYTHING to focus the attention away from her:
Oh yes. Mr. Daddy won a gift card from a blog giveaway. To Dress Barn. And, if you would like to see Mr. Daddy "modeling" his final choices, you can simply go here. Don't worry, I'll wait. It's worth it.
So, we all had a good giggle at Mr. Daddy's expense. And then one of us had to pee.
No, really. Shana has crabs. Real ones. You can look at photos of them here. And if you're a crab person, they really are quite cute. But, because Liz hadn't seen the crabs, they became FB friends so that she could see the crabs. Weirdest conversation ever!
And, really, it didn't seem odd at all that Mr. Daddy randomly chimed in with an outhouse anticdote. But then Rachel took it down a whole other road:
And apparently, once Mr. Daddy found out that we ALL knew his buttocks were unshaven, he became a spoilsport and made Rachel go to bed.
Fuddy duddy old man.
Yes, this conversation lasted 2 1/2 hours, had almost 1100 comments, and covered just about EVERY random subject known to man. I do not remember the last time I woke up with sore abs from laughing. And my phone, which receives all my FB notifications, refused to work. Apparently I made it think too hard the night before.
But, thanks to three crazy ladies (and one nut of a man), my night at the hospital was anything but boring!

Want to read Rachel's side of the story? Or more stories that are just so nuts they have to be true? Goharass visit Rachel and Mr. Daddy at Once Upon A Miracle. Don't forget to tell them that Saint Poopicus sent you!

At this point, sweet nurse-man Jeff snuck in the room to check Violet's temperature and vitals.
Mr. Daddy, Rachel's hubby, must have wondered what all the snickering was about, because he jumped into the fray:
